Your priorities for Hackney Wick

Last year our engagement team, led by NewmanFrancis, met with many local groups and people to hear from you what your priorities are for Hackney Wick. We held workshops, surveyed local people and businesses via street surveys and phone calls, and held meetings with key groups.

You told us you wanted Wick First to:

Preserve the local character
It is important for the artistic and creative community to remain at the heart of Hackney Wick. It’s artists and creatives that give the area its unique character.

Deliver open spaces for all
Green spaces, accessible to the whole community, are important and should be easily accessible via safe pedestrian and cycle routes.

Provide creative workspaces
Workspaces need to be flexible and affordable and allow for creative enterprises, studios and artistic activities as well as more traditional desk space.

Include welcoming new buildings
A number of residents want new buildings to be welcoming for new and existing residents.

Encourage local businesses
More footfall, and more visitors to the area, would help local businesses to thrive and allow a wider range of businesses to open.

Provide new spaces for everyone
There should be a mix of spaces and facilities, making this a place where children can play, grow up and thrive, and stay right through to their older age if they wish.

We want to know if your priorities have changed, or if we missed anything, since we last spoke. Our proposals will be influenced by what you tell us – we want to make sure what we build serves the existing community, as well as new residents.

Keep in touch

We are going to be out in the community at a variety of events – online and in person – over the coming months. Keep an eye on this page for updates about where you can meet us.

We are also asking local people to help co-produce our engagement programme – so let us know if there are local events or activities we should take part in.
